Ashley's long overdue post birthday post

I was so bad about posting stuff last year. Kind of lazy and whatnot.

So, three months later-here's Ashley's birthday pics...
 We did a little family part for her on her actual birthdate as well.
Got her a brand new set of scriptures since she turned twelve and joined Young Womens (at church).
I made her a scripture tote to go with them.

 She got  a Snuggie. Peace out baby.

These pics are from the get together she had with her friends.
She invited her best buddies from fifth grade. She doesn't get to see them much anymore because we moved clear across town. Two out of three of them got to make it to the party.
Here they are, the Three Amigos-

Miranda, Ashley and Marisol.
And again...
The plan was to go to the mall, hang out like the budding teenagers they are becoming, and then maybe have a sleepover. The sleepover part didn't pan out, but that was ok. They had a blast together anyway.

 They loaded up at the candy store.

 Posed with some celebrities in the record store. I guess it's not really called a record store anymore is it?

 Such cute girls!

 I love this pic, it's just so paparazzi'ish.

 I made them each a little purse to carry their cash for the mall.

The birthday cake. Ashley's favorite colors were green and pink, last year anyway.
Kind of a sad looking cake, but it tasted good. :)
 We watched Mama Mia after the mall, the girls had fun singing along.

It was a lot of fun. I had a blast hanging out with them.
I'm so glad for the bonds of friendship.
Sweet.

Joining the ranks

Today I got....
canned
fired
laid off
terminated
the pink slip

I have mixed emotions.
They say whenever God closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.
I believe that's true, so I'm sure there's something else out there for me.
I'm thrilled at the prospect of a few weeks off.
I can be a stay at home mommy for a little bit.
:)
However, there won't be a paycheck involved in that.
:(

I've been a little bored at work, so maybe I'll find something I REALLY like to do.
Wish me luck!
Oh, and pray!
:)

Haley's Birthday post

So here's the post all about Haley's birthday bashes.
Actual birthday, we just had some family over, had supper....
 lasagne, salad and a boatload of garlic toast.
 Chocolate cake, decorated with white chocolate chip skull and crossbones. Ashley did the decorating. Not bad....

We had her party with some of her friends on Saturday-my birthday.
Cause nothing says happy birthday Mikki like a housefull of screaming 8 year olds. :)

 You might have seen the cake already, I had to put it on Facebook. Best cake I've ever assembled.
Pretty easy too. Found the idea on the Family Fun magazine website.
 Pirate swordfighting, with breadsticks.
 A whole gaggle of pirates. Gang of pirates? Group of Pirates? (shrug).

 Pirates eating pizza....
 And the cake, post mortem....

I was glad when it was over.

Garage band

I haven't posted much at all lately.
So, thought I'd show you what the boys are up to these days.....

So far, Jason has broken two wooden spoons and one of the plastic ones.

After they were done playing the drums, they decided to cook up some lunch.

Sweet.

We have a birthday girl in the house

Happy Birthday to Haley.

She really rocks!
Her teacher thinks she's amazing, and so do I.
She's a leader who doesn't know it yet.

Nine things about Haley:
  • She loves to play with her brothers.
  • She loves to get hugs.
  • She loves to have her back scratched.
  • She's generous.
  • She's very bright.
  • Total Tomboy
  • Her favorite colors are red and blue.
  • Super loving and sweet.
  • She's stubborn.
Happy 9th Birthday Haley.
Love you SO much!
Hope your birthday rocks, just like you!

Hey baby, what's your sign?

So, Jeri posted about the new signs. Have you heard about this yet? My husband texted me about it yesterday, and I saw someone mention it on Facebook two days ago.

Apparently a whole lot of people are not too happy at being told they're no longer the sign they thought they were. I'm one of those people.
I have been an Aquarius all my life. Now, I'm a Capricorn? Please.

Well it got me wondering. I figure I should at least look it up and see what it says about me, and see which sign is closer to being correct.

So let's see:

Traditional Aquarian Traits

Friendly and humanitarian--yup,... well maybe. I think I'm friendly and kind, but I don't really DO anything to improve the lives of others. Except maybe my family and that's debatable. LOL

Honest and loyal--yup

Original and inventive--hmmm, not sure. Guess I am a little creative

Independent and intellectual--definitely independent, and maybe a little intellectual, I did well in school, but I'm no Einstein.

On the dark side....

Intractable and contrary--hmm, I don't really think I'm this way, but I probably have my moments. :)

Perverse and unpredictable---Me perverse? never.

Unemotional and detached--Oh yeah. That's me. Seriously.

CAPRICORN TRAITS:

Practical and prudent--I think so.

Ambitious and disciplined---N.O.P.E. !!!!

Patient and careful--patient, me? Did I tell you about the time my daughter prayed in Primary, in front of EVERYONE, that her mom would find patience? Haven't found it yet.

Humorous and reserved--reserved, yes. I think I'm humorous too.

On the dark side....

Pessimistic and fatalistic--sometimes. I think I do see the cup as half full most of the time, but I don't like tempting fate, so I'll say the opposite of what I mean. Does that make sense?

Miserly and grudging-I'm VERY selfish. So I have to agree with this.

Hmmm, I guess I fit into both. I am right on the border. But then again I probably also have many of the tendencies of all the other signs.

It's just all a bunch of hogwash anyway right?

Maybe I'll invent my own sign. Now, I'm a Capriquarius.

Happy Anniversary to the love of my life....

Wow! Fourteen years ago today, Jon and I were married. Here. In Vegas. At the Chapel of the Fountain inside Circus Circus.
Not exactly my dream wedding.
But, it doesn't really matter-because we're still going strong. Besides, it really was "us". We're kind of goofy and spontaneous.

I sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I'd married someone else,...a return missionary...the "proper Mormon boy" that I was supposed to hold out for. And always, as soon as that thought pops into my head it immediately leaves. I just can't see it. I can't imagine my life without Jon.
~~~~~~
I love this song. Whenever I hear it on the radio, I think of my sweety and me.
Dave Barnes - God Gave Me You
I've been a walking heartache
I've made a mess of me
The person that I've been lately
Ain't who I wanna be
But you stay here right beside me
Watch as the storm goes through
And I need you
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I've lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it's true
God gave me you
There's more here than what were seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You'll always be love's great martyr
Ill be the flattered fool
& I need you
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I've lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it's true
God gave me you
On my own I'm only
Half of what I could be
I can't do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I could never undo
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I've lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it's true
God gave me you, gave me you.
Gave me you.
~~~~~~~
I do believe that Jon and I were meant to be together.
 I believe that sometimes, our Heavenly Father wants us to pick the one that wouldn't be the obvious choice.
I wouldn't go back and change a single thing.
~~~~~~~~
We went out last night to celebrate. Panda Express and then Carrot Top. Hilarious! (not exactly a "dedicated to the Lord" kind of show, but I've got all year to work on it right?
Jon's fortune cookie said "Make time for a relaxing vacation"--he actually just had vacation. But who couldn't use another one right?
Mine says "Your road to glory will be rocky but fulfilling"--ain't that the truth?
~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Anniversary to my love.
I'm looking forward to the next fourteen years
 and waaaaaaaayyyy beyond!

Dedicated to....

google images
I've been giving some thought to what my New Years resolution(s) should be, or if I should even bother with them this year. Heaven knows the list of my shortcomings is miles long and there are SO many areas I need improvement in.
I've been pondering what my word for the year should be. Perhaps "persevere" would be a good one or "EnJOY" or "breathe".  Perhaps a phrase instead-something like "just keep swimming" or "try harder!" or "count to ten".
LOL

As I lay in bed new years eve, praying and pondering what things I should work on, I suggested to the Lord that perhaps I should consider dedicating this year to Him.
Let me tell you, that's a scary thought for me.
Most of the things I do aren't worthy of dedicating to Him.

But, maybe if I start each day with that thought in mind, maybe it will make me strive a little harder to do better, and to be the kind of mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend that I want to be; that the people in my life deserve for me to be.
so....
big breath........
really big breath........
I can do this.
He has faith in me.

I DEDICATE THIS YEAR TO THE LORD.

I'm really scared now.
