Resolutions Revisited

So, I really can't believe we're already well into August. Didn't this year just begin like, yesterday?
How is it that some minutes seem to drag on for hours and yet months go by in the blink of an eye?
The girls go back to school in a week and a half. I'm so not ready. I haven't bought a thing yet, and it just doesn't feel like they've been home for five weeks already. I really would like to have more time with them--even though they do drive me up the wall half the time.

So anywho, I was contemplating all this the other night, and thought back to my list of resolutions I made in January. I thought I'd go back and see what I'd accomplished so far. Not much I'm sad to say.
  • Let's see, I wanted to lose 30 pounds, or at least start eating better and getting more activity. Well so far, I think I've gained thirty pounds. My eating habits have even been declining. I usually skip breakfast and lunch and nibble on junk. I don't drink any water.
  • I wanted to do more scrap booking----nope. Haven't even pulled out a picture
  • Draw closer to the Lord---nope. I think I've actually gotten farther away lately. My scripture reading and personal prayer are not where they need to be. I do them both, but my reading is minimal and my prayers are rote.
  • Do better on my church calling--again, nope! My visiting teaching is nonexistent, and last month the coordinator called all my sisters to get their reports. Bad, bad Mikki!!
  • Get my Patriarchal Blessing---well what do ya' know? I did one!!! I did get my blessing in February. Finally!!!
  • Get my Temple Recommend and go through the Temple---Oh my gosh!!! I did this one too!! Yay!! There's hope for me yet!
  • Keep the Sabbath holy--Well, I'm still so-so on this one. Needs more work.
  • Do better at Family Home Evening--again, not doing so good on this one.
  • Quality time with my family--I think I'm making improvements on this one, but I could still do better.
  • Saving money--nope, not so hot. We did open a second checking account, but we're still working on the savings part.
  • Stop using my credit card--sigh. Another one down the tubes.
  • Food storage--OK, really, what was I thinking when I made this list. Food storage? Me? Miss Disorganized? Miss I Can't Save Money Let Alone Save Up a Few Extra Cans of Food Now and Then? Get real!
  • Organization--um yeah, did you see the previous one? Miss Disorganized, that's me.
  • And then there was my home wish list. Yeah, none of that's come to pass yet either. We are still hoping to paint in the next month or two. We'll see how that goes.

So, overall, I'd say I'm failing. Well, maybe a D-. That's OK though, the year's not over yet right?

I think I'm going to re-work my resolutions and pick out a few that I want to focus on for the rest of the year. I've actually managed to do more than I usually do. And they were important ones too, so that has to count for something right?

"My scripture reading and personal prayer are not where they need to be. I do them both, but my reading is minimal and my prayers are rote."

The most important is that you keep on doing it. Sometimes the quality of our reading and praying is up and sometimes it is down. It is not a matter of just one day but a whoe periode of time. the most important i to never think that the quality of it is so low that not doing it would not make a difference. It would and it has actually in my life.
just keep on doing it even if it seems pointless because I can promise you it only "seems" to be.

I think that you have set a very ambitious list of new resolutions and considering that I (single and no kids) would not have set such list I think you're doing really great.
You have actually reached some of the important goals on your list and it is more than I can say for myself.

Keep up the good work. no matter how far you are from reaching what you thought were your goals you are actually further from your starting point than you think.

You've done some very important ones!

I think it's a good idea to focus on just a few, rather than a lot, as it can be overwhelming.

I think going to the temple was the most important of all of these. And I love my Patriarchal Blessing. I hope you do too love yours. This is the first year I didn't make any at all and I've accomplished things I hadn't even planed on. And I do believe in a season for all things. For hells sake you've got twins! You're doing GREAT!!

As long as there are still months left in the year, you're not a failure! And who said you have to finish the entire list anyway? Just making the list is an accomplishment in itself! Don't be too hard on yourself - you have a lot going on!

Congrats on what you have accomplished!!! That is great that you got your P blessing AND your Temple Recommend - I have to say this qualifies for #3 in my book!

I am on the same page as you. I am a list maker and the other day I started revisiting things I wanted to accomplish this year but haven't. I think the beginning of a new school year does that to me. It is nice to look at the goals again though - it means they are still on the burner!

Good luck :D

I think you did the most important ones on the list, so don't be too hard on yourself! I only set one goal this year, trying to be realistic, but of course I gave up on that when the baby came. I guess I should get going again. Thanks for the reminder.

Don't beat yourself up. All of us are still a work in progress. I don't know anyone who thinks they don't need to work on things. You are doing great!

Honey, you should be proud of yourself. You got your patriarchal blessing and you went to the temple! That is amazing!

And I think you should make fewer more specific goals for yourself.

Like, try to drink 64 oz of water for one whole day. Then do it again the next day.

It's easier than big huge goals thatyou have a whole year to do.

Well Sweetie you list is very ambitious. I think most of us would fall short trying to do all that. Focus on what you did do.

You are probably doing better than you realize. Sometimes we just can't see the progress. Maybe it is slight in some areas, but maybe you are doing so great in another.

We all probably wouldn't like to do this right now :) It is always a progress, but that is the inch by inch, line upon line thing.

I'm right there with ya sista! I have soooo many things left on my resolution list and probably won't accomplish but one or two more before the year is done. The way I see it is that it is much better to have gotten a couple of things on the list done than to not have made the list and accomplish none of them!

Thanks for stopping by my lonely, neglected little blog! (another thing on my "to-do" list that gets shoved to the way side all too often.) We're all doing good here - just the same old stuff pretty much. Gearing up for b-day #40 in a few weeks!! (OUCH!) I'm not ready for this!!! LOL.
