Your thoughts?

So, lucky me--I get to give a talk in church this Sunday.
Father's day.
(by the way, I lived in my old ward for ten years, and not once did they ask me to speak in Sacrament!!! I was actually ok with that!!!! lol)
So of course the topic is on Fatherhood.

I'm just curious.

What is your definition of Fatherhood?

Let me first wish you the best of luck. I have managed to not give a talk for 2 years. (knocking on wood now)

my dad had a hot temper...

My husband is the polar opposite of my dad. He likes to talk with our children, when they make a mistake he will talk about what they did wrong, then talk about how they could have done things different. When we found out our son was doing drugs and drinking. He calmly took a chair into his bedroom sat down by our sons bed. Woke him up (he was hung over) and in a calm voice said "Son, I know what you have been doing I need to hear it from you." My son broke down and cried sharing how he came to be involved in drugs. We have been truly blessed because of my husbands patience, and understanding. He never judges or yells at our children. I feel really blessed that he has been such a wonderful father.

My dad was not that way. He was quick to be angered when we made mistakes.

I hope this helps, these are just the thoughts that came to mind when I read your question.

Mikki - I am sure you'll do great!!

I think a great father:

1. Loves their mother!
2. Listens and gives wise counsel
3. Teaches them how to work
4. Supports their activities
5. Let's them know of his love for the Lord and his Testimony

That is going to be a challenge, but I think you'll do a fabulous job.

Fathers are there.

The live their testimony.

They serve.

Mikki,
I love that you are asking your blogging friends to help out! Good for you!
I would say Cherie's #1 is my #1 100%!

A good father needs to love their mother and show respect for her.

A good father is patient and consistent.

A good father is involved with his children.

Good luck and have fun!

i bet you did a great job on your talk!!! When i think of a FATHER a think of a man who is strong but gentle, hard working but knows how to play, strong willed and unwavering but willing to listen. He is a leader but never dominating. He is also full of love and never too proud to show it outwardly.

A father is like a mother to me. It is a notion not a definition.
The one who is my "father" on Earth has a wife and three kids on his own. He and his wife are "terrible" in this way that I have always seen them taking care, loving, getting involved in the life of children who lacked of a mother or a father.
Being a father is getting closer to divinity to me because it takes (just like for a mother) divine quality to be a good one.
