Happy Birthday America!!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!

America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
~~~America the Beautiful
~~Katharine Lee Bates
We sang this in church last Sunday, and this particular verse really, really choked me up.
God Bless America!! And God Bless our troops!!
Hope you all have a happy and safe 4th!!
I love this song and that verse is especially touching. I heard that this song was in the running for the national anthem but was shot down because it was written by a woman. Not sure if it's true but if it is, too bad.
Yes, that is the same verse that brought tears to my eyes today! Which is kind of not good when you need to see the notes to play. It actually was an amazing fast & testimony meeting today.
We sang it this week in church, loved singing it. I felt full of gratitude the whole day through for our freedoms.
There is always so much to be found beyond the first few verses of the well known American songs! They are always my favorite part.
Thanks for stopping by my blog a while back! I promise I'm usually faster at responding than this! - Lindz
