Strange Thoughts I sometimes have

OK, call me strange. I'll admit to that. I sometimes have really wacko thoughts about things. So, I thought I'd start a new category/label whatever you want to call it, where I can journal some of my odd thoughts.
So, here's the one I had today:

What if this switch to DTV that is supposed to occur by February of this year, which has now apparently been postponed til later in the year is like the mark of the beast?
It just seems strange to me that some wierd digital box hook up thing has to be regulated by the government. That there is this big deal over it. Why is this switch to dtv even necessary? I know I'm pretty uninformed about lots of things Maybe someone can explain it.

You see how the media is getting more and more liberal everyday--is this some subtle, obscure way to make sure we're all tuned in to them so we can be slowly brainwashed?

So, what do you think. Am I totally nuts or what?
Just today's strange thought, brought to you by....

Haha! I've never even thought about this.

This is SO not a strange thought. You realize that the US is just a few tiny steps away from charging people to have tv in their homes like they do over here. Originally, that charge saved the British people from suffering through so many adverts and fund raisers-- but not anymore. The tv is littered with adverts AND we pay £140.00 every year.

You're just baby steps away...

I've been wondering about this too. But if you think about it if you have cable or satellite they already can monitor what you watch. Same thing with the internet. This whole push to have those converter boxes is a little strange. I hope it's nothing bad, but who really knows.

Orwell's "Big Brother" is closer than we think. Kinda scary.

Here in AZ they have photo enforcment speeding cameras on the freeways to catch speeders. Well those cameras can also scan license plats....so they can virtually track when and where you are driving.

ok...so I realize my comment made me sound like one of those people that have lined their window with tinfoil and wear a tinfoil hat.....I don't have tinfoil on my windows. ;)

NOT strange at all... I think it is more of something like Big Brother -Watching over us. It cracks me up how everybody thinks we have all this "freedom" in america.
I was just asking my mom the same thing the other day-Why would it be government mandated? Hello?-She said so the government knows everybody will have access in case of an emergency. I asked," What ever happened to the good ol' radio?" She said that's a good point.
No, I think your thinking is really on the right track. :)

You're not nuts. I agree, this whole mandate with DTV is just nuts. I wonder what the actual cost for the government to have cables vs. a satellite up in space is and if it's actually worth it or adding to our national debt. We'll see I guess...

Im going to have to disagree with the whole "Big Brother" theory. People are getting more and more paranoid these days!

I work at a broadcast station, and we've been dealing with the DTV transition here. All it is is an"upgrade." We are just trying to make everything standard. It's so expensive to broadcast in both digital and analog that there's no point in staying analog. Plus, analog TV's are practically obsolete anymore. It's like going from VHS to DVD. Not the "mark of the beast." Just moving forward.

My husband and I were discussing how the media all of a sudden went conservative overnight. Literally, the day after Obama's inaguration the media was totally flooded with criticism and opposing coverage. It's only been a week and already they're trying to increase ratings with criticism. There's no winning...!!

Millions of dollars...if not a couple billion, have been put into mandating DTV; which is silly. Also there will be a gov't mandate to put Broadband in every home! Which will also cost billions. If you (broadly used) want internet service in your home...PAY FOR IT!

I don't understand that billions of dollars can go to these un-needed things when hundreds of thousands of Americans have rotting teeth 'cause they don't have med insurance!

Great Post.

My DH explained it to me this way..
With all the new technology out their - there isn't enough room in the 'airwaves' for analog systems. It bogs other stuff down. So switching to Digital helps.

I just heard someone talking about this on Christian radio today :-). I don't think it's big brother at all because it's just hooked up to your tv - just like satelite and cable..

Isn't the mind an incredible thing!!

Wow. I was in my google reader and just had to come on over and comment on this one Mikki. You have a good point. I have a TV but only access two channells ABC and PBS because we choose not to have "tv" in our home. I like being able to put on a dvd of something I know will be ok and not waste too much time on it... so,
this is what I think, I disagree with the Governments regulations on stupid stuff like this. That's not their job and we do lose freedoms more and more as the world grows increasingly more wicked.
A lot of people including me sometimes, are just uneducated about what goes on so it happens while they sleep per say.
I think there are so many ways to get news, emergency reports etc that if you are worried of your families privacy or what the government shouldn't know then you can simply unplug.
Your family would adjust to life without just as they adjust to life with it. I think families would be better off with out tv anyways..
~~~~~~~~~
(that being said: I am not a tv hater and I do love a lot of the shows on tv that I have seen over the years that are neat documentary's, or BYU channel etc but I think we can all be more resourceful for family entertainment if we didn't rely so much on the tv. Then the Government could dip their hand into that. I think a lot of it has to do with wanting our money but I wouldn't be surprised if their were secret recording devices in them. :) scary......
bring on more odd thoughts ..please. :)
The only good thing I got from my philosophy class in high school was this piece of advise from our teacher:
Every time you think something, you believe something, ask yourself "WHY?".
Who wants you to think or believe this? Who will get the benefit from what you think or believe? And when you try to really think about it you find out that those who wants to get something out of you are not always the ones you thought first or the ones who are pointed at.
I have wondered the same thing. But then I heard it's basically what Under the Sun said. Still...makes you wonder...
I had not even given the change any thought. Except that we will either need a new TV or the box to watch any thing any more. Makes me wonder what is next?
Krissy said...
If I'm not mistaken, cause this totally stressed me out for a LONG time... people that have TV's that still use the "bunny ears" are the ones that need the box. The commercials I've seen that try to clarify it a bit more say that if your tv is already digital there won't be a change. You'll just notice a better clarity? But the thoughts aren't weird at all. I've thought the same thing.
