location, location, location

I went walking up my favorite hill today with the boys in tow. It was a beautiful morning for a walk.
I detoured through this lovely neighborhood towards the top of the hill.
Here's an example of one of the houses. It's not THE prettiest of them, this one is vacant, that's why I took a picture of this particular one. It's quite lovely don't you think? I was thinking to myself, Oh how I wish I could move up into one of these homes. They're HUGE!

However, I do see one problem with these homes. Do you see it too?
Look how close they are to each other.
Look at this one, I wouldn't want to walk out into my miniscule backyard, or have my blinds open to the backyard. The neighbors behind me could see everything I was doing. (not that I'm doing anything strange, I'm just sayin')
Now, my house is just as close to my neighbors too. Fortunately though, we're all single story, so it's not like we're getting into each others business.

Now this one, I could handle. They're right on the corner lot. Which means they probably have a much bigger back yard, more in keeping with the size of the house, and they're enjoying some privacy as well.

Same house from across the street. They're up on this hill too, so they have a great view of the horizon line. It's probably nice at night. They can see some of Vegas' lights, but far enough away not to be obscene.

So, what's my point here? Not sure I have one, just noting things I want to keep in mind for that day in the future when I get to hunt for my dreamhouse.

My hubby's cousin recently built a new home in Henderson, and it's gorgeous. But I do see what you're saying. The homes are very close together.
Not much different than here, though. Some of the homes up on the hill, are gargantuan, and build and teeny tiny lots.
Me...I wish I had a farm, and a farmer to farm it, cuz my guy doesn't do manual labor.
Ok, there is your long comment of the day!
Ta DA!

I'm with you there! All the newer homes are built so close together! Where we live, they have to be at least 5 feet from the property line, so the homes are just 10 feet apart in many places. Crazy! We bought a corner home, so it's a bit crowded in the front, but our back yard is big and we have plenty of space!

Mikki,
I can't go by a house that is for sale and not think of what it would be to live in it. We bought the house we live in 4 years ago...It is big and has big windows and on each side our neighbors houses are close - The reason we bought it though is because it had a green belt in the front of the house and a green belt in the back of the house! So if you look out front or back you don't see anybody else-Just beautiful ferns and trees.
We just keep our side blinds closed. Which is sad. This is one of the reasons we are looking for a house in the country! I'm sure there will be downfalls to living in the country too (like having pizza delivered)!!!!
Take Care,
Robin~♥

i LOVE looking at HUGE houses and imagining one day....me inside! We love walking through the model homes (some new ones just opened by Cram) and picking up design tips! You should check them out (on clayton & centennial-ish) call me and we can walk there together some morning.

That is why we moved out of the city so we wouldn't have our neighbors watching us eat dinner through the windows! It is fun looking and dreaming!

When I was in high school, my mom and I moved into a new home in CA and it was two story and we were thisclose to our neighbors... which was weird... We had an OK backyard, but, I could see my neighbors backyard (and pool) from my bedroom--I always felt like a spy. And not in a cool James Bond kind of way.

In any event, house hunting is fun and those are some lovely homes!

I love to go house hunting-window shopping:) Your right about the mini-size...so it's built for people who just want to BB-Q on a patio...not mow a big back yard. (I like it). Nice work Mikki!

Oh it's so fun to dream isn't it? And no matter what house I'm in, I can always find one that's nicer or bigger. I really hate how close they build most homes now days. Nothing like my parents' house that they've had for 40 years. I also love to walk around at dusk and be able to see in people's houses before they close their blinds....do you ever do that? Just call me Peepin' Tam!

that was fun... i LOVE walking through model homes, my mom and i used to do it all the time when i was younger. i love the decorating ideas and i love finding reasons why i'd never buy their big expensive house. sometimes the people doing the floorplans are morons, (or just not women)
